Architecture & Design
The 13 singular eco-houses, two tree-houses, and one cottage by architect Luis Rebelo de Andrade, each assembled onsite and strategically placed in spaces between ancient trees, represent immersive architecture at its best; where the elements of the surrounding park have been taken into account and combined with nonconformist design. Working with the Portuguese Company Modular System, the three identical prefabrication modules allowed the construction of each house to fit into its environment and be unique. In the Thermal Spa, Pritzker Prize winner Alvaro Siza Vieira has only tinkered with the original interiors of the 19th century structure, where natural light is fully maximized through sweeping windows and restored stained-glass ceilings.
